Explore our Private Wheel Throwing Lessons for 2–9 People here.

Over the course of two hours, your group will have the studio reserved exclusively for your event. Our private events are intentionally relaxed and free-flowing — equal parts pottery making and socializing!

Guests can mingle, snack, sip, and enjoy the space while taking turns rotating through our pottery wheels. Our instructors will guide everyone through the basics of wheel throwing and beginner-friendly forms, with hands-on help along the way. Absolutely no experience necessary!

All tools, materials, and instruction are included, and each guest has the opportunity to create their own functional piece of pottery from scratch.

One finished piece per person is included in the session price. If you make something you love, we’ll clean it up, glaze it in your selected color, and fire it for you. Once complete, your pottery will be food, drink, microwave, and dishwasher safe! Guests who create additional pieces are welcome to keep them for a $10 finishing fee per piece, which covers the additional materials, labor, and kiln space required. Keeping additional pieces is completely optional — the experience is designed to be all-inclusive, with the goal of creating one piece you’re excited to take home and use.

Finished pottery is typically ready for pickup in approximately 6 business weeks.

How it Works

1.

Interested in hosting a private event at Pinch? Fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page and tell us a little about what you have in mind!

Please include your anticipated number of guests, preferred date and time, and the age range of participants when applicable (such as for a children’s birthday party), along with any other details you think we should know.

Before submitting your inquiry, please take a look at our Private Wheel Throwing Lesson for 2–9 People booking calendar for a general idea of current availability. Private events are scheduled within these openings, with 15 additional minutes added to either end of the listed time slot to accommodate the full two-hour event.

Once we receive your inquiry, we’ll be happy to confirm availability and walk you through the next steps!

How to Inquire

2.

After submitting your inquiry, you can expect a response within 24–48 hours. We’ll confirm availability, finalize your event date and time, and send an invoice payable securely online.

To reserve your date:
A $300 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of booking. Your event is not considered reserved until the deposit has been received.

10 days before your event:
Your final headcount and remaining balance are due. Private events require a guaranteed minimum of 10 participants and can accommodate up to 20 participants. Your remaining balance will be calculated based on the final number of guests confirmed at this time.

Once your final headcount has been confirmed and paid, it cannot be reduced. Additional guests may be added after the deadline, up to our 20-person maximum, provided we are notified in advance. If your final headcount falls below the 10-person minimum, your group will no longer qualify for Private Event pricing or the extended two-hour event timeframe. Instead, your reservation will be adjusted to our standard Private Wheel Throwing Lesson for 2–9 People, including the corresponding per-person pricing and standard 90-minute session timeframe.

Booking less than 10 days in advance?
Your final headcount and full payment are due at the time of booking.

Payments received after the required deadline are subject to a $5 per participant late fee. If payment is not received, we cannot continue to hold your reservation and the time slot may be reopened for booking.

As a small, appointment-based studio, reserving your event means setting aside that time specifically for your group. We greatly appreciate your mindfulness of our schedule and resources!

Other Things to Note

For guests 21+, BYOB is welcome! You’re also welcome to bring your own snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and small party decorations to enjoy during your event.

Please note that we do not provide food, beverages, or catering services, so anything you’d like to enjoy during your event will need to be brought in by your group.

After three years of hosting private events, we’ve found that two hours is the sweet spot — plenty of time to make pottery, socialize, snack, and enjoy the studio without the experience feeling rushed or drawn out. For this reason, private events are limited to their designated two-hour timeframe and cannot be extended.

Because we often have classes or lessons scheduled directly before and after events, additional time for setting up and taking down decorations, food, or beverages brought by your group cannot be guaranteed. When our surrounding schedule allows, we’re happy to provide a few extra minutes before or after your reservation exclusively for setup and cleanup. Otherwise, groups should plan to complete both within their reserved two hours.

Looking to pair your pottery event with a meal before or after? We’re surrounded by some of San Diego’s best restaurants throughout the Gaslamp Quarter and East Village, and we’re always happy to share a few of our local favorites!
